14 October 2010 [15:19] - TODAY.AZ
All universities of Azerbaijan will switch to the credit system from September, 2011. Chief of Education Ministry’s Department for Higher and Secondary Education Ilham Musatafayev told APA that serious activities are being carried out.

He said according to the law on education that came into force in 2009, the education basing on credit system in higher schools is necessary.

Department chief said credit system is applied in all higher schools in the country. Most of them have switched to this system completely, some only on certain specialties. Mustafayev added that the application of the credit system started in higher schools on voluntary principle.

“We started it as an experiment. The ministry empowered the schools to start the process when they feel ready. Baku State University switched to the credit system on two specialties, later the entire school switched to this system. Azerbaijan State Oil Academy has completely switched to the credit system this year. The higher schools on art started the process late. But all higher schools will switch to the credit system compulsorily,” he said.
