
By late 2010 a project on creating a zoological park in Azerbaijan will be submitted to the Government, Azerbaijani Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Huseyngulu Bagirov said. The Turkish-German company works to develop a project on creating a zoological park.
"Territory, which allocated for the park, has a very heavy soil and high boron content, as there were a lot of mud volcanoes. At present, variants are being developed so that the cleaning of the territory may not cost that much," Bagirov said.
The Minister expressed hope that the first part of the project will be submitted to the Government by late 2010, in order to begin construction works in 2011 without waiting for completion of the designing.
Not only breeding, but also their rehabilitation, recovery of endangered species, providing them with clinical care is planned in the zoological park.
According to him, current zoo in Baku is a menagerie, where animals are kept in cages.
But, there work who have experience with animals and care for them. I think these people will be employed in the new zoo," he said.
"The ministry also plans to establish a training center to train new personnel, which in future will be attracted to work in a zoological park.
