Azerbaijani Ombudsman meets with prisoners in Ganja

Azerbaijani Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova held monitoring of the Pretrial Detention Center No. 2 in Ganja last week. The monitoring aimed to prevent torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. Suleymanova conducted interviews with women and children, and explained to them their rights. Prisoners expressed satisfaction with the detention center's management and staff.

Suleymanova also conducted monitoring of the center's individual buildings and chambers, and examined the kitchen, meeting areas and medical unit. She also presented the management with recommendations to improve the conditions in the center.
