Doha hosted Days of the Azerbaijani Culture for the first time in the history of the Azerbaijan-Qatar relations.

The Culture Days were held within the Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfaz Garayev's official visit to Qatar June 1 -4, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Qatar told Trend. During the visit, Garayev held several meetings with the Qatari officials, including Qatari Culture Minister Hamad Bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Kawarri the and leadership of the Association of Museums. He also visited the Al Jazeera channel.
The Culture Days were opened with prominent Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov's opera "Leyli and Majnun". Al-Kawarri and Garayev attended the opening ceremony.
In his speech, Al-Kawarri stressed the importance of the Days of the Azerbaijani Culture in Doha, which was declared the capital of Arab culture in 2010. Given the special relations and the closeness of the two countries, holding of the Days of the Azerbaijani Culture in 2010 have special significance," he said.
The country hosted Culture Days of many countries in 2010, but the events organized by Azerbaijan differ with a distinct quality and the program, which more liked by the rest of the Qatari audience, Al-Kawarri added.
The opening ceremony was also attended by officials from both countries, Azerbaijani MPs, representatives of the diplomatic corps, media and the Azerbaijani community of Qatar.
The second day of the Culture Days included performances of Ancient Musical Instruments Ensemble and the State Dance Ensemble. The works of Azerbaijani artists, carpets from folk applied-decorative art samples, copperwares and national costumes were exhibited at the event.
During the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation visited several museums, including Museum of the History of Islamic Heritage of Qatar, which is famous for the best exposition of the heritage of Islam, as well as the Museum of Weapons.
The Days of Qatari Culture were held in Baku June 6-11, 2009.
