Two protective dams were damaged in the Sabirabad region of Azerbaijan.

About 50 hectares of land were flooded as a result of destruction of a dam in the village Chigiran May 18, the Emergency Situations Ministry's website reported. Today also protective dam, built along the bank of the Kur River in the village of Azadkend in the Sabirabad region, was damaged.
In order to eliminate the consequences of flooding, with the help of forces and equipment, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and other bodies are working to restore and strengthen damaged dams. The relevant works on security, including evacuation of the population are underway.
In recent days, floods occurred in 40 districts of Azerbaijan due to rise in Kur River and rainfalls. As a result of the disaster, about 20,000 houses were flooded, more than 300 destroyed, 2,000 became unsafe and 50,000 hectares of cultivated land left under water.
