UNICEF offers support for early detection of disability in Azerbaijan

Steven Allen, UNICEF Regional Director for Central and Eastern Europe/CIS, who was on his visit to Azerbaijan, met deputy minister of health Nigar Aliyeva. The guest said UNICEF can provide reliable support to solve the problems of early detection of disability as well as iron deficiency anemia among pregnant women.

The new plan of activity, according to Steven Allen, will encompass 2011-2015 years and include several issues related to Azerbaijan. Allen said that Azerbaijan`s leader always shows concern in the field of health. Aliyeva described the support provided by authoritative foreign organizations, including UNICEF, in this area, especially in the light of the Children’s Year. Steven Allen also pointed out, that child death rates decreased in Azerbaijan over the last years.
