
As a result of destruction of dam on the Kur River near the Mursalli village in the Sabirabad region some territories of the villages of Mursalli, Ulajali, Shikhlar and Buldug are under water.
Last night operations have been carried out to strengthen the dam with additional forces and by means of equipment of the Emergency Situations Ministry and other relevant agencies, Emergency Situations Ministry said.
The population of the affected villages have been evacuated. Currently, operations are held to strengthen the dam in these territories. Floods in 40 Azerbaijani regions have been recently registered. About 20,000 houses were flooded, more than 300 destroyed, 2,000 were in emergency condition, 50,000 hectares of cultivated land were under water as a result of the disaster.
Water level decreased in Kura river up to one meter in some areas, Minister for Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov told media.
"We have already overcome the critical situation. Operations, to restore the dams to be completed within two or three days, are being conducted," he said. Necessary work is being conducted to ensure normal living conditions of the evacuated population, Heydarov said.
