Over 1,000 Baku pedestrians fined

During the activities held on April 15-19 within a month of road safety under the motto "Attention, a pedestrian!" in Baku 1,146 pedestrians were fined for violation of traffic rules.

During the first four days of the month of road safety in Baku fourteen of traffic accidents were registered, in which three pedestrians died and sixteen were injured, Baku's State Administration of Traffic Police public affairs department head Jamshid Hanifayev told Trend today.

According to him, traffic police tightened security measures in order to minimize the number of accidents related with pedestrians.

Baku started month of road safety under the motto "Attention, a pedestrian!" April 15, and will end May 15.

Purpose of the month of road safety is to increase the productivity of measures in the prevention of traffic accidents, and in particular strengthening discipline among pedestrians.

Within three months of 2010, 217 traffic accidents related with running-down accidents were registered on the streets and roads of the capital, in which 82 people died, 165 - were injured. These accidents account for 41.9 percent of the total number of road accidents that occurred during this period throughout the country, and 52.6 percent - of the similar rate on Baku.

According to Hanifayev, 196 drivers were fined for drunken driving, 44 - for the creation of an emergency, 22 - insubordination, 230 - failing a red traffic light, 10 - driving without numbers, 13 - auto hooligans in Baku from April 15 to 19.

Some 63 violations of traffic rules were registered in the sphere of passenger transportation.
