Azerbaijan contributes much to establishment of Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia

Azerbaijan, one of the founders of the conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, made a huge conference to establishment of the CICA, Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Nurlan Yermekbayev said at a press conference following a Baku meeting of CICA Committee of Senior Officials.

He said the main aim of the Baku meeting was to prepare for the CICA meeting of Heads of State and Governments to be held on June 8 in Istanbul.

Yermekbayev pointed out the organization plays important role in the cooperative security of member states. Discussions at the meeting revolved around security of the transport corridor, environment, economy, and fight against drugs turnover.

Yermekbayev emphasized the organization`s statute does not envisage resolution of military conflicts in the member countries, adding “we, however, share our views on some military and political issues”.

Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) is an inter-governmental security forum in Asia which was initiated by Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev in 1992.

It has 20 members currently with Vietnam set to join in June.
