
On March 5, American Bar Association Justice Initiative in Central Europe and Eurasia (ABA-CEELİ) held an event to congratulate the members of the Association of Women Lawyers of Azerbaijan on the occasion of March 8.
ABA CELLI and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAİD) render support to projects of the Association of Women Lawyers of Azerbaijan.
It was officially registered in 2007 and works to promote women’s role in society, ensuring their effective participation in economic, social and political life and professional activities, and address emerging challenges in their path.
Head of the Association Sabina Gahramanova said currently the organization has 280 members whose average age is 25-30 years. The organization’s membership also includes many students. In a year, members of the organization are expected to increase by another 50 people.
The Association organized outreach meeting on gender equality, combating domestic violence, trafficking and early marriages in country’s regions. In addition, the Association conducted activities to explain women's property rights in divorce. The Association also provides free legal assistance to women.
USAİD Coordinator Scott Taylor also made a congratulatory speech at the event.
The event was also attended by women from the state institutions, municipalities and civil society institutions.
