Azerbaijani serviceman killed as Armenia stages another provocation

20 May 2018 [17:24] - TODAY.AZ

Serviceman of the Azerbaijani army Adil Tatarov has been killed during the combat mission for interception of another provocation by the Armenian Armed Forces on the Nakhchivan section of the Azerbaijani-Armenian state border, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said May 20.

The ministry expresses its deep condolences to the family and relatives of the martyr.

The Ministry of Defense said that newly elected defense and foreign ministers of Armenia, who visited the line of confrontation of troops in this direction, stand behind this provocation.

The ministry doesn’t rule out that namely those ministers gave instructions to stage this provocation.

Armenian leadership should know that Nakhchivan’s brave serviceman will retaliate for the martyr in a short time.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
