July weather characterized by heat above norm

Last month’s average air temperature of 28.5°C exceeded the climate norm 1°C. From June 23 to July 4 the maximum temperature was 3°C or more above normal and this qualified as a heat wave.

The air temperature observed in Baku last night was 2.7 ?C above the norm.

Asif Verdiyev, a chief hydrologist at the National Hydrometeorological Bureau told Trend that the highest temperature of daytime air in Baku was 37 ?C and  26 ?C at night.

The temperature in Sumgayit at daytime reached 40 ?C and  26-27 ?C at night.

Despite the high air temperature, such weather is typical for July, he said.

The chief hydrologist said that in the previous years, hot weather in Baku and Absheron peninsula was  also observed in July. The temperature in Baku reached 40 ?C on July 12, 2010 and July 22, 2011.

Verdiyev said that  north-west wind will intensify in Baku and Absheron peninsula until July 8 morning. Meanwhile, temperature will gradually drop by 4-6 degrees compared to previous days.
