Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation, NGOs create initiative group for upcoming referendum

Baku has hosted a meeting with participation of representatives of Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation and 24 NGOs with the purpose of creating an initiative group for the referendum scheduled for Sept.26, 2016.

The meeting was attended by 402 representatives of the initiative group consisting of 4,002 people.

The meeting participants praised the proposed amendments to the constitution and noted that Azerbaijan has significantly strengthened during the years of presidency of Ilham Aliyev.

Moreover, during the event, it was noted that amendments to the constitution are submitted to referendum in all countries.

The meeting participants noted that currently, there is a necessity to make relevant amendments to Azerbaijan’s constitution.

It was decided to call the initiative group the “Civil Society”.

Twenty-five authorized representatives of the initiative group and an authorized representative for financial issues were appointed during the meeting.

Moreover, it was decided to send a notification to the Central Election Commission (CEC) for registration of the initiative group.

Earlier, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree to hold the referendum on making amendments to the constitution Sept.26, 2016.
