Azerbaijan celebrates women's holiday

Women are a symbol of elegance and beauty, without which love, care and patience, and even life on earth would have ceased to exist.

To remind them about it every year March 8 is celebrated globally as International Women's Day.

Women’s Day is the day of femininity, beauty and tenderness. It’s a holiday of love and admiration for women, indeed, the most beautiful creatures on the earth.

Initially the day, celebrated by the United Nations since 1975, aimed to help nations worldwide eliminate discrimination against women and focused on helping women gain full and equal participation in global development.

Slightly different from the day's original focus of celebrating women's economic, political, and social achievements, the modern celebration Women's Day became simply an occasion for men to express their love for women in manner similar to a combination of Valentine's Day and Mother' s Day.

Women’s Day is all about celebrating these incredible people and showing them how much we love, respect and value them.

Many women, regardless of their status and age look forward for this occasion, as on that day they feel themselves a little more special, being in the center of attention.

On this day, people show their love and gratefulness to women in different ways. Men, children, even women themselves give gifts, present flowers, postcards with poetry, chocolate, and other pleasant gifts to their mothers, wives, grandmothers, sisters and daughters, wishing them happiness, joy and prosperity.

Almost every woman will receive flowers and other gifts from their husbands, brothers, sons or fathers. Men will make some special efforts toward making every women in their life feel extra special. Many companies reward their female employees with time off or gifts.

The holiday is celebrated by the United Nations, and in some countries including Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Russia, Armenia, and Belarus this day is celebrated as a national holiday.

An Azerbaijani woman is a symbol of elegance and beauty and is considered the protector of household.

Women have played an important role in Azerbaijan over the centuries. Azerbaijan was the first country in the Islamic world to grant women the right of vote, which is the fundamental basis of a democratic society.

In Azerbaijan with about 10 million population, women accounted for 50.2 percent of the total population of the country.

Azerbaijan established the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs in 1998.

Nowadays, women are closely involved in the socio-political, socio-economic, scientific-cultural, and other aspects of life in Azerbaijan.

Dear men do not forget to celebrate all women on this day by greeting and making them feel important and special. Be sure to brighten their day with kindness and appreciation, as they do for you all year round.
