Baku to meet New Year with fireworks

On the eve of two big holidays - Solidarity Day of World Azerbaijanis and New Year, Baku is finishing its preparations to ensure the holiday atmosphere in the city.

Baku City Executive Power announced that a grandiose show of fireworks will mark the unity of world Azerbaijanis and arrival of the new year on December 31.

The firework show will take place at the Baku Boulevard and start after the Clock Tower chimes midnight.

Every year thousands of people gather in the city center to view how spectacular fireworks paint the cold winter sky over the city with bright colors, immersing visitors in the New Year’s atmosphere.

Weather will also prepare a surprise for Bakunians, since forecasters predict snow and sleet in Absheron Peninsula. Thus, the capital will meet the New Year under the fluffy white snow.

The National Hydrometeorology Department of the Ecology and the Natural Resources Ministry predicts temperature drop of 5-10 degrees C, with strong northwest wind.

The unstable weather conditions will remain until January 3.

In the regions of Azerbaijan, the weather is expected to get cold from December 30. The forecasters predict an abrupt change of weather conditions, with sleet and snow. The cold weather is expected to remain in the regions until January 4.
