Not long ago a dangerous type of flu began to mutate among people again, keeping many cautious not to catch this in most cases deadly virus.

Swine flu, which first detected in the United States in April 2009, could spread rapidly to reach other continents.

H1N1 virus causing the disease is now an undesirable guest in many countries, posing immediate danger for the nearby nations.

The recent detection of the diseased with swine flu in the neighboring Iran put Azerbaijan also in alert.

An outbreak of swine flu has left 33 people dead in two provinces of southeastern Iran in the past three weeks. Nearly 600 people have been hospitalized in Kerman province over the outbreak.

Azerbaijan carries out preventive measures every year to prevent the spread of the influenza, said Spokesman of the Health Ministry Liya Bayramova, adding that currently, the virus poses no threat to the population.

"The situation with swine influenza in Azerbaijan is under the control," she stressed.

H1N1 virus is a unique combination of influenza virus genes never previously identified in either animals or people. H1N1 is distributed by airborne transmission and its symptoms are high fever and pyrexia.

Yolchu Khanveli, the spokesman for the State Veterinary Service under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Agriculture, in turn, said the situation with this virus in Azerbaijan is stable.

“We constantly monitor the condition of the animals, measuring their temperature and implementing appropriate procedures. The epizootic state with the virus is stable in the country, and cause no concern,” he said.

Earlier, the Ministry said that possible spread of the swine flu may surface the necessity of vaccinating certain population groups.

People with weak immunity, patients with chronic diseases, and pregnant women are included in a higher risk group.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry issued a document, envisaging the allocation of the special chambers for hospitalization patients with suspected swine flu, provision of personal with protection equipment, and implementation of disinfection work.
