Ten years ago, when the Azerbaijan Academy of Engineering was established, no one doubted that it will achieve great success in the short timeframe.

Azerbaijani scientist, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, the rector of the National Aviation Academy, academician Arif Pashayev, who headed the Academy since 2011, is proud with the organization which brings together Azerbaijan’s leading engineers and experts.

“As an independent scientific and technical organization, the Academy has become an attractive structure in a short time, bringing together Azerbaijan’s leading engineers and experts,” Pashayev said.

The Academy, with its great scientific potential, was active enough in many areas of engineering participating in many giant and small projects with its important discoveries.

The Engineering Academy successfully cooperates with Azerbaijan Airlines on the problem of reducing the flights risk, associated with the spread of infectious diseases during air travel.

Currently, the Academy is working on a comprehensive study and use of ozone in aircraft, a special program designed and provided by ICAO and the World Health Organization.

The Engineering Academy has had big contribution in transport projects such as TANAP, connecting South Caucasus Pipeline in Azerbaijan with multiple pipelines in the European Union and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project, which aims to become a major connector for Eurasia.

Recently, Azerbaijan has started to develop its space industry, launching its first telecommunications satellite into orbit in 2013. The launch of the next low-orbit telecommunication satellite is scheduled for 2016.

The Engineering Academy is closely involved in this program, playing an exclusive role by leading the Space Council.

“Our work will be focused on the achievements of Azerkosmos in the fast reception of satellite data, solving management tasks and natural resource exploitation, during the photogrammetric and GIS projects, the development of thematic geoportals and geographic information systems, development of innovative technologies for implementation on the basis of the customer's algorithms and processing techniques for aerospace information, as well as consulting and training,” Acad. Pashayev said.

The Academy has a large cooperation with structural branches of the State Oil Company (SOCAR) and AzNeft production association, in the sphere of innovative technologies, thus achieving major results.

To contribute to this field the scientists have developed a complex of measures based on the method of flicker-noise spectroscopy on finding and preventing accidents and cases, which at the time negatively influenced both the environment and the working staff.

“We have developed a new construction of the driving part of the oil-field compressor, we also improved serviceability of air compressors which are used in internal oil-field works. We are implementing nanotechnologies to intensify oil production. Active implementation of innovative methods and technologies enabled to increase economic indices,” the Academy’s president underlined.

Moreover, to ensure the regular exploitation of oil and gas wells, the academy's scientists and engineers created an installation for heating and maintaining the desired temperature of liquids and gases in order to prevent hydrate formation and wax deposition in communications, which are used in offshore platforms.

The academy’s scientists and engineers have also succeeded in petrochemical technologies, developing corrosion inhibitors to protect metal in layer waters of oil wells containing hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide.

The academy cooperates with many foreign engineering academies including Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Slovenia and Kazakhstan, and is a member of the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Islamic Countries.
