Lithuania, one of the most beautiful countries located on the east coast of the Baltic Sea, made a presentation on its tourism potential in Baku on May 20.

Lithuanian Ambassador to Baku Valdas Lastauskas informed the participants about the increasing tourism potential of his country. The ambassador noted that Lithuania wishes to attract more Azerbaijani tourists, so that they can get better acquainted with such a beautiful country.

“In recent years the number of Azerbaijani tourists to Lithuania has significantly increased,” he added.

Lastauskas underlined Lithuania’s popular clinics such as the Druskininkai Health Resort, as well as the ones located on the coast of the Baltic Sea and in Palanga city attract more and more tourists every year.

Noting that the visa regime has been a little obstacle for the country’s tourism development, the ambassador voiced hope that soon enough citizens of the two countries will be able to travel visa free.

He added that the number of tourist visas issued by the embassy increases by about 25-30 percent yearly.

Lastauskas also touched upon the inaugural European Games to be held in Baku on June 12-28. ”This event will be a great opportunity for sportsmen and fans from Lithuania to learn more about Azerbaijan,” he said.

Jurgita Kazlauskiene, the director general of Lithuania State Tourism Department, in turn, said the country seeks to attract more Azerbaijani tourists by developing all its cultural and historical potentials, as well as by promoting its spa- and health tourism.

“Our aim is to connect the shores of the Caspian and Baltic seas. Our countries have much in common and we are going to make them even closer through tourism,” she noted.

Nazim Samedov, the deputy culture and tourism minister of Azerbaijan, also spoke about the beauty of Lithuania, saying that Lithuania is a country where every tourist feels comfortable.

“Azerbaijani tourists represent more than four million people - who regularly travel to foreign countries. This presentation is very timely since the tourist season is around the corner. Lithuania is a country that can offer Azerbaijani tourists a comfortable and affordable vacation,” he said.

During the presentation, Lithuanian travel companies put emphasize on four directions of the Lithuanian tourism industry, including medical and spa tourism, cultural, active and business.

The companies underlined that vacations in Lithuania have an optimal ratio in between quality and price.

Guests enjoyed a taste of Lithuanian cuisine and had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the country’s culture.
