The Ebola scare is still threatening the world. The world's worst-ever Ebola outbreak has killed over 4,500 people so far with more than 9,000 people infected.

To cope with the virus, Azerbaijan has strengthened quarantine controls on border crossing points (BCP), the State Customs Committee said.

The State Committee noted that preventive measures have already been taken on the national border checkpoints.

To this end, some special seminars have already been held for staff of the border checkpoints. Moreover, the borders' staff use special device - thermovisor- to determine the temperature of the human body.

The centers have adopted special medical examinations for persons passing through the borders. Special brochures about Ebola virus compiled by sanitary quarantine inspection of the Azerbaijan's Health Ministry are distributed among people passing through borders.

Also, the fact that such products as banana and coffee are imported from African countries creates deep doubt among Azerbaijani population.

However, officials assure that penetration of this dangerous disease into the country via imported goods is impossible.

The Head of the Toxicology Control Laboratory of the State Phytosanitary Supervision Service under the Azerbaijan Agriculture Ministry, Yagub Ibrahimov, stressed that Ebola virus could not penetrate into Azerbaijan via imported bananas or coffee.

He said that the laboratory of poisoning control carefully checks imported bananas. If the bananas do not meet certain standards, they won't be allowed to enter the country.

The dangerous disease spreads only via direct contact through broken skin or mucous membranes with the blood, or other bodily fluids or secretions (stool, urine, saliva, semen) of infected people.

The incubation period of Ebola is maximum 21 days. People are infectious until their blood and secretions contain viruses, which lasts up to 60 days.

To protect yourself against the disease, it is necessary to observe personal hygiene.

Recently, WHO established the list of countries, which urgently should approve the national response plan in case of Ebola's penetration into their territory.

Some 14 countries have been included in the list, which have a common state border with the countries that are experiencing an epidemic and a high level of migration flows.
