Power of traffic police expands

Draft law on changes to "On the road traffic" law which expands the legal base for police to chase the drivers has been adopted at the plenary meeting of Milli Mejlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan.

According to the bill, the traffic police could pursue the driver in case if the transport facility is illegally taken (stolen) or the driver is suspected in a crime, furthermore, if there is no other way to stop the car, then the police has the right to use the means for forced stopping.
 
In accordance with the changes, chase can be realized in cases if the transport facility is illegaly taken (stolen), or the driver is suspected in a crime, or he/she creates danger to life and health of the people, as well as, if the vehicle doesn't go in line with safety standards. In the mentioned cases, the pursuit could be arranged through providing the information by means of radio connection to the high-ranking officials of the executive power. If it doesn't help, means for mandatory stop are allowed to be used.
 
Note that according to the acting law, chase could be arranged in cases if the driver creates danger to the life and health of the people, under the terms of safety and providing information by the radio connection to the high-ranking officials of the executive power. Usage of the means for forced stop of the car is allowed if the aforementioned steps emerge useless to stop the transport facility.
