‘Nagorno Karabakh used for drug transit in S.Caucasus’

“The number of registered drug users in Azerbaijan grows by 1000-1500 people every year,” Head of the Office of National Propaganda against Drugs Mazahir Efendiyev told journalists.

According to him, number of young people among drug users grows. 18-25 year old people are included into the risk group.

Efendiyev said that drugs in the group haploid - marijuana and hashish are mostly used in Azerbaijan: “The law-enforcement bodies seized 50 kg heroin within the 6 months of this year. The law-enforcement bodies of Azerbaijan withdrew more than 5 ton drugs from turnover over the last 5 years. The occupied territories – Nagorno Karabakh and uncontrolled areas in Georgia are used for drug transit in the South Caucasus.”

Saying the establishment of relations of drug mafia with the leadership of some countries, Efendiyev noted that drug labs are operating in the occupied Nagorno Karabakh territory of Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani side has raised issue several times in international organization: “We consider that this issue will be reflected in the next reports of the UN.”
