Baku’s cinema: what, where & how much

More than 20 cinemas operated in Baku during the Soviet period, but today their number has dropped to 4-5. There were cinemas such as J.Jabbarli, Pioneer, Savalan, Shafag, Tabriz, October,  Nizami , April 28, Galaba, Shusha, N. Narimanov, Dostlug, Shimshek, Sunrise, Bilik, Sevil, Baku, Moscow,  Araz,  Vatan, Tower, Peace,  Khazar , etc in Baku.

Today, many of them were closed or privatized or demolished. But the work is underway to return the cinemas to the city. For example, the Nizami cinema was renovated and opened in November 2011. The latest technologies on the demonstration of movie in any capacity, as well as in 3D, were installed here.

Ticket price for a film session varies depending on the time of the session here- tickets to the sessions before 6 pm cost 4 manat and after - 7 manat. The Azerbaijan cinema has the same price policy.  It also shows movies in 3D.

The prices are rather low in the Vatan cinema – 3 manat. Tickets can be ordered in advance by phone. The cinema was renovated two years ago and is equipped with modern equipment.
 
Baku’s one of the most visited movie theaters is the Park Cinema, which has six halls. It is equipped with the best equipment for viewing the film, as well as in 3D.

Ticket price for a film session here is different: tickets to the sessions from 10 am to 12 am- 3 manat,  in 3D - 4 manat, from 12 am to 6 pm - 5 manat, in 3D - 6 manat, and after 6  pm - 7 manat, in 3D - 8 manat. Ticket to the film session in VIP hall is 35 manat.

The cinemas Araz and Narimanov were closed due to the renovation work. The date for their opening was not named. Baku also has small theaters owned by private entrepreneurs. One can watch any ordered films here. These cinemas are popular among moviegoers.
