05 September 2011 [10:38] - TODAY.AZ
A passenger plane operated by the private Iranian airline Mahan Air yesterday made made a rough landing in Mashhad in the northeast of the country, PressTV reported.

Mahan Air Flight 613 took off from the capital Tehran headed for Iran's second largest city, Mashhad, at 10:30 p.m. local time (1900 GMT) on Saturday. The aircraft's front tire burst as soon as it touched down on the runway at Mashhad's Shahid Hashemi Nejad International Airport, IRNA reported.

The pilot of the Airbus jet managed to avoid disaster and saved the lives of all 230 passengers on board.

However, 11 people sustained minor injuries in the incident and three of them were hospitalized to receive medical treatment while other injured were released after medical help, ISNA reported.

It was the latest mishap for the Iranian aviation industry.

On May 24, a passenger plane operated by Iran's state-owned airline Iran Air was forced to make an emergency landing at Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport.

The pilot radioed air traffic controllers, saying he had experienced a technical glitch, and declared an emergency only 10 minutes into the flight.

In early January, at least 77 people were killed and 27 others injured when an Iranian passenger plane crashed near the northwestern city of Orumiyeh in West Azarbaijan province.

The Iran Air plane reportedly approached the runway to land, but was forced to delay its touchdown due to bad weather. The aircraft then disappeared from air traffic controllers' radar screens and went down in farmland after making a second attempt to land.
