Iranian general condemns Persian Gulf Arab states

23 August 2011 [11:31] - TODAY.AZ
Iranian Border Troop Commander General Hussein Zulfugari condemned the Arab states in the Persian Gulf for detaining Iranian ships for an extensive period, Mehr agency reported.

"Unfortunately, if the Iranian ships mistakenly violate these countries’ water zones and are engaged in fishing there, the Persian Gulf’s Arab states detain vessels for an extensive amount of time and impose huge fines", Zulfugari said.

He said that Iranian border authorities behave differently. If Arab ships enter Iranian territorial waters illegally, they are released within a week.

Zulfugari also said that he held consultations with the country’s judicial authorities regarding the application of similar measures to Iranian ships as toward ships from Arab countries in the Persian Gulf.
