Turkey's unemployment rate 11.9% in 2010

The unemployment rate was calculated as 11.9%in Turkey in 2010.

TurkStat stated on Friday that the provinces having the highest unemployment rate were the southern province of Adana (19.1%), southeastern province of Hakkari (17.4%) and eastern province of Van (17.2 %).

The provinces having the lowest unemployment rate were the northeastern provinces of Bayburt (4.7 %), Artvin (5.7 %) and Gumushane (5.8 percent).

The employment rate was estimated as 43 percent in 2010.

According to TUIK, the provinces having the highest employment rate were the northeastern provinces of Rize (58.1 %), Artvin (57.3 percent) and Gumushane (55.4 %).

The provinces having the lowest employment rate were the southeastern provinces of Diyarbakir (27.5 %), Siirt (29.1 %) and Sanliurfa (31.1 %).

Labour force participation rate, which is an important indicator of the labour force, was estimated as 48.8 percent according to the annual results of household labour force survey in 2010 in Turkey.

The provinces having the highest labour force participation rate were Rize (61.8 percent), Artvin (60.8 percent) and southwestern province of Burdur (59.1 %) respectively.

The provinces having the lowest labour force participation rate were Diyarbakir (31.8 %), Siirt (33.3 percent) and Sanliurfa (35.5 %).
