Faulty grenade kills Turkish soldier

A soldier died after a hand grenade he was about to throw exploded in his hand, on Monday night in the southeastern province of Hakkari.

The soldier was on night duty and had received information from a thermal camera about a possible threat. He was going to throw the hand grenade at the source of movement. However, before he was able to throw the grenade, it exploded in his hand, critically wounding him.

He was taken to Adam Çukurca State Hospital where he later died.

A large-scale security operation is under way in the region to capture PKK militants.
