Turkish TUBITAK finds solution for "waste heat"

12 April 2011 [10:32] - TODAY.AZ
The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), after a four-year study, has found a solution to prevent "waste heat" that causes the sky to heat during electricity generation at a thermal power plant.

Within a pilot project made part of the Turkish Research Zone (TARAL), the waste heat resulting from the production of electricity at the Soma Thermal Power Plant is being converted into residential heat. The waste heat at the Soma Plant is also utilized to heat water in residences.

Thanks to TUBITAK's technology, the heating of 22,100 residences will be facilitated by using waste heat and a contribution of around one billion Turkish liras (TL) would be made to the Turkish economy.

In the past, "waste heat" led to the warming of the sky.

With TUBITAK's project, "waste heat" generated during the production of electricity at a thermal power plant will no longer cause warming in the sky.

Turkey has 14 thermal power plants.
