Georgian President intends to take drastic measures to develop football

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili met with the Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Lado Vardzelashvili and Football Federation President Zviad Sichinava.

"We need to expand the base of football to strengthen the national team and raise the level of the Georgian football," he said.

The president said that it is necessary to develop football schools for the football development, to build soccer fields with good cover in several cities and broadcast the matches of the national championship on the public broadcaster.

"It is necessary to broadcast football league. We must give the resource to public broadcaster in order to broadcast major league matches once a week at least. This will give us an opportunity to promote football in the country and raise the football level," he said.

Saakashvili promised that funds will be found to all these. He said the Prime Minister, who will work in this direction together with the Sports Ministry and the Football Federation, is involved in this matter.

The Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Lado Vardzelashvili, the younger generation of football players is very promising and they need support.
