Swedish FM to visit Georgia on Thursday

31 March 2011 [15:16] - TODAY.AZ
Sweden’s Foreign Minister Carl Bildt will visit Georgia on Thursday. As the Georgian Foreign Ministry told Trend, the visit scheduled for March 30 was postponed for one day due to the events in Libya.

During the visit, the Swedish diplomat will meet with Georgia’s senior officials, President Mikheil Saakashvili, Parliamentary Speaker David Bakradze, as well as Security Council Secretary Giorgi Bokeria. Bildt is also scheduled to hold meetings at the Foreign Ministry and the Justice Ministry.

Revolts against Muammar Gaddafi, who has ruled the country for over 40 years, are continuing in Libya located on the Mediterranean coast from mid-February. The country is in a state of civil war.

The UN Security Council adopted a resolution on March 17 calling for the introduction of a no-fly zone over Libya and approving the possibility of foreign military operations.

Thousands of people became victims of the revolts.
