Georgia appoints ambassadors

The Georgian parliament will approve the new ambassador to Azerbaijan on Friday.
Earlier, former Consul General to Turkey Teimuraz Sharashenidze was nominated to the post. The new ambassadors to Brazil, Mexico and Armenia will be approved in a plenary session today.

Head of the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee Akaki Minashvili said ambassadors to Latin American countries are vitally important today, as earlier Georgia did not have high-level representatives in Brazil and Mexico.

He added that these diplomats will work to attract investments.

Otar Berdzenishvili, who served as the director of the ministry's United States Department, will be appointed as the ambassador to Brazil. Malkhaz Mikeladze, who was a member of the Foreign Ministry and served as the ambassador to Washington, will be fulfulling duties as an ambassador to Mexico.

The parliament will approve ambassadors to eight countries at the meeting on Friday.

Kote Kavtaradze will be appointed as the ambassador to Sweden. He previously led the diplomatic mission in Poland. Nikoloz Nikolozishvili, who is part of the diplomatic mission to Slovakia, will replace Kavtaradze. Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Nalbandov will be appointed as the ambassador to Slovakia.

Mamuka Zhgenti will replace Zurab Chiaberashvili in the Council of Europe and Chiaberashvili will be appointed as the ambassador to Switzerland.

Secretary of the Constitutional Committee Tengiz Sharmanashvili will be made the ambassador to Armenia, with Goga Gorgiladze heading to Portugal and Archil Dzuliashvili going to Egypt.
