Turkmen leader: OSCE must focus creating of Forum on Security and Cooperation in Central Asia and Caspian Basin

Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov called for involving the OSCE in the implementation of Turkmenistan's initiative put forward at the 65th session of the UN General Assembly to establish the High-level Forum on Security and Cooperation in Central Asia and the Caspian Basin, the Vatan newspaper reported with reference to the last governmental meeting.

It is about creating a UN system regulating political consultations at the highest level between the Central Asian and Caspian countries.

Ashgabat called on to strengthen international cooperation in addressing non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, disarmament and arms control.

"For Central Asia and Caspian Basin, which now forms the major energy, transport and communications nodes, the disarmament issue is the most important activity of the UN."

The initiative implies conduct of the Forum on a regular basis, alternately in each country in our region. The headquarters of the U.N. Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia is located in Ashgabat.
