'WikiLeaks unable to shake Iran ties'

Iran has questioned the credibility of documents recently released by a US whistleblower Wikileaks about Tehran's ties with its neighboring Persian Gulf states, Press TV reported.

"Regardless of the legal status of the documents, we suppose that the release of a huge volume of such documents in the past few months in connection with Afghanistan, Iraq and other regions is a development whose reasons and manner must be studied," IRNA quoted Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki as saying on Wednesday.

"What is apparent in all these documents is links and associations with the United States, and thus we believe that the US should first announce its official stance on these documents and then one can comment on part of the fabricated materials," the top Iranian diplomat said during a press briefing on the sidelines of a conference on Sudan in Kuwait.

Mottaki pointed out that the "evident side-taking" in the documents in question are intended to target Iran's ties with its neighbors, which are based on "friendship and brotherhood."

"However, the certainly mischievous intentions of those behind the release of the documents must be investigated," the Iranian minister urged.

Mottaki hailed Kuwaiti leaders for adopting a clear and supportive stance toward the bilateral ties between the two nations regardless of allegations brought up in the so-called declassified US documents.

Having met with Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber Al Sabah, Mottaki said the Arab leader had stressed that such moves could not harm the ties among regional nations who base their relations on mutual interests.
