OIC member states' FMs to hold meeting in New York

The Organization of the Islamic Conference \(OIC\) will hold a meeting of foreign ministers of its member states on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the United Nations General Assembly, which opens Sept. 23 and runs until Sept. 27, the OIC said. Azerbaijan will be represented at the General Assembly's session by the Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, Foreign Ministry spokesman Elkhan Polukhov told Trend.

The OIC Secretary General, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu will chair the meeting and discuss issues of the Muslim world with the Islamic Group in the General Assembly. The Secretary General's visit will be devoted to working within the Islamic Group in the UN and various international organizations in order to come up with common positions and push for more effective resolutions. In separate meetings with contact groups, Ihsanoglu will discuss the latest developments regarding Palestine, Iraq, Somalia, and Pakistan, among others.

The Secretary General will also discuss the situation of the Muslim minorities living in U.S.
