Erdogan sends a letter to Obama with Turkish entrepreneurs

A part of the Turkish delegation attending the Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship in Washington, D.C., Deulcom International's CEO Baybars Altuntas said on Monday that they would convey a letter from the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to U.S. President Barack Obama.

The letter makes a proposal to President Obama to hold the second Summit on Entrepreneurship in Turkey, Altuntas said.

Turkish entrepreneurs have created a market of 10 billion euros in Germany and they have made investments worth billions of euros and dollars in countries like Sweden, the Netherlands, France and the U.S., Altuntas said.

The fact that Prime Minister Erdogan sent a letter to President Obama with an entrepreneur shows the importance of entrepreneurs in diplomacy. The letter could have been sent via the Turkish Embassy. With his approach, Erdogan showed that he had confidence in Turkish entrepreneurs, Altuntas underlined.

At the Summit, we will seek answers to many global economic issues and consider the establishment of an entrepreneurship institute in Turkey, Altuntas also said.

In his June 4, 2009 address in Cairo, President Obama announced that the U.S. would host a Summit on Entrepreneurship to identify how "we can deepen ties between business leaders, foundations, and entrepreneurs in the United States and Muslim communities around the world."

The Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship will be held on Monday and Tuesday at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C.

Co-hosted by the U.S. Departments of Commerce and State, the Summit will bring together more than 275 participants from over 50 countries around the world from Morocco to Indonesia, Uganda to Kazakhstan, France to India. They include men and women from many different walks of life, business leaders from diverse sectors, educators, community organizers, and social entrepreneurs among others.

With attendance by the President and various Cabinet Secretaries and senior U.S. Government officials, this Summit is meant to highlight the importance of entrepreneurship to fostering economic opportunity and community development. And, as the President Obama said in Cairo almost one year ago, education and innovation will be the currency of the 21st century, and the Summit will help build relationships that lead to greater opportunity at home and abroad.
