Turkish President: Status quo in Caucasus benefits no one

24 April 2010 [09:22] - TODAY.AZ
Turkish President Abdullah Gul said Friday Turkey needed "silent diplomacy" in its relations with Armenia for some time.

Answering a question on Turkish-Armenian relations at a reception in the Turkish Parliament to mark the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day, President Gul said that Turkey's policy vis-a-vis Armenia was very clear.

Turkey has a careful strategy in its foreign policy and has only one foreign policy on the Caucasus. Turkey wishes to facilitate stability in the Caucasus. The status quo in the Caucasus benefits no one. We have to change the status quo and establish peace and cooperation in the region. There may be a need for silent diplomacy in the region and this is what has taken place for a long time, Gul said.
