Turkish FM: Turkey hopes normalization of Ankara-Yerevan relations to continue

23 April 2010 [17:33] - TODAY.AZ
Turkey hopes that normalization of relations between Ankara and Yerevan will continue from where it stopped, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said, commenting on Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan's decision to suspend ratification of Turkey-Armenia protocols, CNN Turk TV channel reported.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree and suspended the ratification of the Armenian-Turkish protocols in the parliament.

Turkish and Armenian foreign ministers Ahmet Davutoglu and Edward Nalbandian signed the Ankara-Yerevan protocols in Zurich Oct. 10.

Diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey were broken due to Armenian claims of an alleged genocide and its occupation of Azerbaijani lands. The border was closed in 1993.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan's message to people says that Armenia has decided not to leave the process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations yet, but only suspend the ratification of the protocols that meets national interests.
