Barack Obama and Mikhail Saakashvili held phone conversation

On Tuesday April 6, at 8 pm Tbilisi time, US President Barack Obama and Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili held a phone conversation to discuss the upcoming Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, the deployment next week of Georgian troops under US command in Afghanistan, the US-Georgia Strategic Partnership, regional security, and the ongoing reforms in Georgia, Georgian Daily quoted the Press Office of the President of Georgia .

President Saakashvili thanked President Obama for his invitation to the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington. Both Presidents share a deep commitment to international cooperation in fighting nuclear proliferation.

President Obama thanked President Saakashvili for Georgia's exceptional commitment of troops to the international effort in Afghanistan.

He stressed the pivotal importance of the new Georgian deployment to securing peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The Presidents discussed issues of regional security. President Obama reiterated his strong support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Presidents also spoke about the ongoing reforms in Georgia and the importance of the upcoming local elections.

President Saakashvili thanked President Obama for America's continued assistance in helping to build an enduring liberal democracy in Georgia.
