Georgian President signs decree declaring Novruz national holiday

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili signed a decree declaring March 21 a day off in honor of the Novruz holiday, the Georgian Presidential Administration said.

The president promised to declare Novruz a national holiday March 21 when he attended the Novruz festivities in Marneuli, a region densely populated with Azerbaijanis.

About half a million Azerbaijani Muslims and several thousand Georgian Muslims in the Ajaria region live in Georgia.
