Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament Oktay Asadov met with ostandar (head) of Iranian province of Eastern Azerbaijan Ahmed Alirza Baig.
At the meeting, Baig said that relations between Iran and Azerbaijan are at a high level and wished to further develop these relations. "There is great potential for the development of relations between the two countries and this potential should be seriously and exactly studied," said Baig.
According to Baig, the development of relations between the two countries in the field of industry, transportation, road construction and technology serves the interests of both countries.
Baig proposed exchange of fuel between Azerbaijan and Iran in form of "swap". Transporting fuel from Baku to Nakhchivan causes congestion on the border Julfa. Furthermore, it is dangerous both from a financial point of view and from the point of view of human security. If the fuel will be transferred to Iran on the border Meshginsheher and to Nakhchivan on the border of Julfa, then there will be fewer problems," said Baig.
If Azerbaijan cancels entrance fee of $150 at the entrance from Turkey to Nakhchivan, traffic jams of cars coming from Turkey to Iran will reduce on Bazargan border, and for them a way opens to Iran through Nakhchivan," said Baig.
In his turn, Oktay Asadov thanked Iran for providing the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic with fuel and said he would never forget the support provided by Iran to Nakhichivan Autonomous Republic for the fuel and energy.
Asadov expressed his confidence that the relations between the two countries will further strengthen and the existing problems in the field of transportation and investment will be solved.
During his visit to Iran, the Azerbaijani Parliament's Speaker Oktay Asadov arrived in the city of Tabriz. The parliamentary delegation led by Oktay Asadov is on an official visit to this country at the invitation of Chairman of the Iran's Islamic Council Assembly from 20 to 22 February.
