U.S. special representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan to hold talks behind closed doors in Georgia

Richard Holbrooke, U.S. special representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan, who arrived in Georgia on Feb. 21, will hold a number of official meetings today.

In Batumi he held an informal meeting with Mikheil Saakashvili, the Georgian leader, and discussed issues of security and participation in peacemaking operations.

According to the Foreign Ministry of Georgia, in the course of the visit Holbrooke and Saakashvili will visit the Ministry of Defense training centre in Krtsanisi, where Georgian military are trained for further departure for Afghanistan.

Journalists will be allowed to neither of the meetings. Today the visit will be over.

Previously Nino Kalandadze, Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia, noted importance of that visit for the country, since it once again highlights the significance of Georgia's participation in ISAF operation in Afghanistan.
