Iran, Turkey may hold 'further talks' on uranium-fuel swap offer

Iran “has consulted with our Turkish friends in the past few months” and may hold further talks on the issue, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Tuesday at a press conference in Tehran with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu. He didn’t elaborate.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal Monday night said governments should act quickly to prevent Iran’s program from spurring a regional nuclear arms race.

Mottaki said the U.S. is “promoting old military approaches and pursuing unrest and instability in the region,” referring to U.S. military offensives in Afghanistan and Iraq, two countries that border Iran.

U.S. President Barack Obama is demanding tougher United Nations sanctions against Iran to persuade the regime to cease uranium enrichment, which the U.S. says is part of a plan to acquire nuclear weapons. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is on a three-day tour of the Persian Gulf to seek support sanctions.
