Georgian opposition says Saakashvili trying to normalize relations with Russia

12 February 2010 [11:08] - TODAY.AZ
Nino Burjanadze, the Democratic Movement-United Georgia leader, called names of Georgian officials, seeking for contact with Moscow.
In her interview to the All News [Georgian newspaper] she confirmed her previously made statement about Mikheil Saakashvili's "sending emissary by emissary to the Russian authorities," and said Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili and Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava do the same.

Burjanadze highlighted "fact that today the country is ruled by Vano Merabishvili and his small group."

She also reminded the recent statement of Gigi Ugulava about Georgia's possible renouncement of plans to join NATO in case "Russia behaves well with Georgia."

In her view, it was an overt appeal for Moscow to support Ugulava's aspiration to be the President.

Speaking of the opposition's contacts with Russia, severely criticized by the government, she didn't rule out her visit to Moscow, but mentioned that no certain meeting had been planned yet.

Merabishvili and Ugulava hasn't already commented the ex-Speaker's statements.
