Armenia sees rise in unemployment rate

"Armenia’s unemployment level reached 7.1 percent  by late December compared to 6.3 percent  at the beginning of 2009. The number of registered unemployed is 84,493 people, " Sona Harutyunyan , head of the State Employment Service told  a press conference on Jan. 21.

According to her, the number of people found new jobs over the past year exceeded the expected outcomes by 9.2 percent reaching 9,394 individuals, 2,321 out of whom are young people, and 1,418 are  non-competitive in the labor market.

"Six job fairs in the cities of Dilijan, Vanadzor, Gyumri, Artashat, Kapan, Hrazdan helped to find new jobs to 220 people," Sona Harutyunyan said.

According to her, there are  13, 65 vacancies in Yerevan particularly in the fields of construction, services, while there are 650 vacancies in the regions of the republic, where there is demand for professionals in medicine and education.
