Iran’s leading reformist not to run for Parliament speakership

30 May 2016 [17:44] - TODAY.AZ

Mohammad Reza Aref, reformist who found his way to the Iranian Parliament as the top representative of the Tehran constituency, has said he will not run of the permanent speakership of the legislative body.

Aref tweeted on May 30.

He lost the interim speakership to right-wing rival Ali Larijani just a day earlier.

Although the reform wing saw a sweeping victory in Tehran by occupying all the 30 seats, it gained only one fourth of the Parliament's presiding board on the crucial day of May 29.
