Iran’s deputy FM in Russia for regional talks

24 March 2015 [14:50] - TODAY.AZ

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian traveled to Russia late on March 23 to discuss regional developments with his Russian counterpart.

Amir-Abdollahian is scheduled to meet with Mikhail Bogdanov, Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister and Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Iran’s IRNA news agency reported March 24.

The two sides will exchange views on political developments in Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Libya, and Palestine.

They will also negotiate to boost cooperation on fighting against terrorism in the region.

In December 2014, Amir-Abdollahian said Iran and Russia are seriously pursuing the strategy of supporting Iraq and Syria against terrorism.

“Tehran and Moscow will actively help Iraq and Syria in their fight against terrorism and the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group,” Amir Abdollahian said.

He emphasized that the supports provided by Iran and Russia for Syria and Iraq in their fight against terrorism are real.
