Gas may be free for low income Turkish families

The Turkish Energy Ministry is preparing a bill under which low income families in the country will be exempt from paying for the consumption of domestic gas, Sabah newspaper reported on Monday.

According to the publication, the bill will be presented for consideration to the government in the coming days. After its approval, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security will prepare a list of low income families in Turkey who will qualify for this benefit.

The newspaper reported that this exemption will apply mainly to low income families living in the underdeveloped Turkish provinces.

In January-July 2013 in internal market of Turkey 21.78 billion cubic meters of gas was realised compared to about 24.41 billion cubic meters of gas in the same period last year.

In 2012 the Turkish internal market, 41.44 billion cubic meters of gas was realised compared to about 39.4 billion cubic meters in 2011.
