Obama called Egyptian army to form democratic govt

US President Barack Obama on Wednesday called on the Egyptian military to move quickly and responsibly to return the country to a democratically elected civilian government, dpa reported.

Obama said he was "deeply concerned" by the decision of the Egyptian Army to remove the democratically elected Mohammed Morsi and suspend the Egyptian constitution.

He urged the military to avoid any arbitrary arrests of Morsi supporters.

"The voices of all those who have protested peacefully must be heard - including those who welcomed today's developments, and those who have supported president Morsi," Obama said. "I urge all sides to avoid violence and come together to ensure the lasting restoration of Egypt's democracy."
