Turkish FM : 'We are in New York to show our support to Palestine'

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in New York, Anadolu Agency reported.

Davutoglu is set to attend a UN General Assembly voting on Thursday over Palestine's request to upgrade its status at the organization.

"I hope Palestine will be upgraded to 'non-member observer state' in the voting tomorrow. We are here in New York to show our support to Palestine," Davutoglu told reporters after his meeting with Abbas.

Davutoglu sounded optimistic that the UN voting would secure a favorable outcome, adding that voting would a historic moment for Palestine.

On the other hand, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Malki thanked Turkey and his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu for the support to Palestine's bid for upgrading its status at the United Nations.

"My brother Davutoglu did not leave us alone on this important and historic day," al-Malki told reporters in a press conference after a meeting between the Turkish foreign minister and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in New York.
