Batumi awards millionth tourist

A symbolic millionth tourist, Pole Mieczys?aw Ezhevsky, was awarded at the Batumi International Airport.

Department of Tourism and Resorts of Adjara presented to the millionth tourist a week-long trip to Batumi Sheraton hotel for next year, and tourism agency of Batumi handed him a gift package tour.

Ezhevsky in an interview with reporters said that he learned about Georgia from newspapers and decided to have a vacation in Batumi.

According to the head of the Department of Tourism and Resorts, David Kikava, from January to the present day the number of tourists to Adjara has exceeded one million.

"Particular percent growth is recorded from Poland. Therefore, by the decision of the Department, we symbolically awarded citizen of Poland, as a millionth tourist. It should be noted that the number of tourists from Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Israel and the Baltic countries significantly increased. But in terms of the number of tourists Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia are again in the lead," he said.

Some 1,016,165 tourists visited Adjara from January 2012 to August 11.
