The administration of the Georgian National Olympic Committee sent a special letter to the organisers of the Olympics - 2012 in London in connection with the fact that the website of the organising committee refers to Georgian territory as Russian.
The corresponding statement was issued by the NOC of Georgia. It is noted that on the official website of the Olympic Games in London - www.london2012.com, where the profiles of athletes participating in the games are placed, the birthplace of the Russian national team member Besik Kuduhov was noted as South Ossetia and Dennis Tsargush as Gudauta, with the addition of 'Russia' in brackets.
In this regard a protest from the Georgian NOC followed and a formal letter to the organisers of the competition was sent. Georgian NOC requires Georgia to be noted as a place of birth of the athletes.
Military action was launched in the Georgian territory of South Ossetia on Aug.8 in 2008. Later Russian troops occupied the city of Tskhinvali and drove the Georgian military back. Russia recognised the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in late August.
In response, Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations with Moscow and announced the two unrecognised republics as occupied territories.
